Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from a consultation call?
A brief 30 minute call to give you the chance to share what you’re looking for, explore your goals, ask questions, and get a feel for my style - no commitment, just connection and clarity. Best of all, it’s on me!
What should I expect if this is my first time in therapy?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to work on, and what helps you feel supported. There’s no pressure to share everything right away. We’ll go at a pace that feels safe and comfortable.
How long do I need to be in therapy for and how often do I need to come in?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and needs. Some people come for a few months, others stay longer for ongoing self-exploration and growth. We’ll talk about what makes sense for you and revist that as we go.
Can therapy help if I’m struggling with my identity, belonging, or cultural pressures?
Of course! Exploring identity, whether cultural, sexual, gender, or otherwise, is a central part of my work. Together, we will unpack the layers of who you are, understand how external pressures have shaped you, and move toward a sense of authenticity and belonging that feels true to you.
What if I’m part of the LGBTQ+ community - will therapy be affirming?
Absolutely! As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I know the importance of provide affirming and inclusive care that is grounded in empathy, respect and understanding. My goal is to offer a space when you can explore your experiences freely, without fear of judgment or misunderstanding.
What if I’m from a background where mental health isn’t often talked about, will you understand my struggles?
Yes. As a South Asian child of immigrants, I understand cultural nuances, intergenerational expectations, and stigma that can sometimes make seeking therapy very difficult. My practice honors your unique story and creates a space where you don’t have to explain or defend your identity - you can simply be yourself.
What’s the difference between talking to a therapist and talking to a friend or family member?
While loved ones can offer support, therapy provides something unique - a confidential, nonjudgmental space where the focus is entirely on you. As a psychologist, I’m trained to help you explore patterns, emotions, and behaviors in ways that lead to lasting insight and change.
Do I need to have something “serious” going on to go to therapy?
Not at all. Therapy isn’t only for crises. It’s also for growth, reflection, and understanding yourself more deeply. I strongly believe that therapy is an important part of emotional wellbeing as it allows you to continue building insight, coping skills, and self-awareness even when things are going relatively well. Just like we care for our physical health through regular exercise or checkups, ongoing therapy can help you feel balanced, grounded, and aligned with your values even when life feels steady.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
I offer both virtual sessions and in-person therapy, depending on your location and preference. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of telehealth, while others prefer the connection of in-person work. We can decide on what works best for you.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 48 hours notice for cancelling or rescheduling your session. Late cancellations are subject to a full session fee.
What are your fees and do you take insurance?
Fees vary depending on session type, but range from $190 - $300. While I do not take insurance, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
